“Nurturing a plant takes a commitment to gradual, daily care. You can’t grow something by soaking it in a bucket of water all at once. In the same way, you can’t work hard on a goal, giving it your all for one day out of your life, and then forget about it come January 2. Commit to daily tending. Our lives will bloom through daily decisions and habits—daily tending, nurturing, and pruning—not just the giant leaps made once in a while.” ― Lara Casey
Beautiful One Midwifery was started in 2018. It took most of that year for us to navigate all the professional and legal details of being a corporation offering medical services - a learning process for sure! However, we also made a lot of space for dreaming, vision-setting and goal planning. It’s a welcome joy to both of us that the other is so goal-driven! We really thrive off of setting our sights on a particular thing and figuring out how to get there.
The newness of our practice is pretty inspiring to us so far. We thought it would be fun to be share some of our goals for this year, to motivate us personally but also to be transparent about where we want to improve and grow.
Personal Goals:
-Continue to work together as a 2 midwife team offering care to our clients, splitting the workload and backing one another up as needed.
-Scheduling time off-call in-between clients to reset, rest and restore our minds and bodies.
-At least 1 family vacation each this year.
-Using our knowledge of best physiological health practice on ourselves! Practicing what we preach by eating well, prioritizing sleep when we can control it, moving our bodies regularly and spending time outdoors.
-Caring for our spiritual health with regular time reading The Bible, prayer for our clients and each other, and weekly church attendance.
-Honoring our family by dating our husbands at least once a month, and keeping set days during the week work-free to focus on our family time and give our kiddos all of our attention.
-Spend time together NOT talking about work! We want to plan quarterly outings together just to have fun and connect on a sisterly level.
Business Goals:
-Rent an office in North County that is a easy to find, warm, and has a space for educational events.
-Serve 12 homebirth families this year.
-Expand the reach of Wine & Gyn into other cities, states and even other countries.
-Develop an event for moms and pre-teen/teen daughters to learn and discuss puberty, personal health, sexuality etc together.
-Donate at least $2,000 to mother-friendly charities through the Whole Mother Co shop.
-Facilitate gatherings for our clients to connect with one another and share pregnancy, postpartum and parenting wisdom.
We know for sure that this opportunity we have to impact our community and attempt to live out midwifery well is a special one. We feel like we are stewards of both: the way birth impacts a family, and the way we model sustainable midwifery. It’s definitely a privilege to dream, to plan and to work in this unique capacity. Check back as we update our progress throughout the year!
